Skyline Living Wins in Two Categories at the 2022 CFAA Awards!

On Tuesday, May 11, 2022, Skyline Living proudly won two Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations (CFAA) National Rental Housing Awards honouring achievement in rental housing throughout the previous year: Rental Development of the Year and Rental Housing Provider of the Year. 

The CFAA is the national voice of the apartment housing industry throughout Canada and engages in advocacy on behalf of the industry as a whole. The CFAA National Rental Housing Awards are held each year to commemorate housing providers that go above and beyond in serving their tenants and the communities in which they operate.  

There was stiff competition, and we were delighted to be able to celebrate our peers’ wins in-person at the gala awards held at the Toronto Hyatt Regency after two years of virtual presentations necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This past year, we have focused on our sustainability goals and are proud to see those efforts recognized in the rental housing industry,” said BJ Santavy, Vice President, Skyline Living.

Skyline Living won in the following categories: 

Rental Development of the Year: Carrington View 

Carrington View Apartments in West Kelowna, British Columbia was our winner for Rental Development of the Year. This beautiful new three-building 186-unit property was set apart from the competition by its spectacular views of Okanagan Lake, great access to nearby outdoor recreational opportunities, and its focus on sustainability and environmental friendliness. 

Built to be net-zero energy ready, including strict metrics for energy use, thermal losses, and air leakage, it is part of the Okanagan Valley’s largest grouping of residential solar installations, and the solar panels are expected to produce enough power for all of the property’s common areas.

Carrington View is many years ahead of BC’s goal of having all new constructions be net-zero energy ready by 2032. 

Additionally, the property offers a spectacular indoor and outdoor amenity space for its residents, including a fireside social lounge, full kitchen and dining area, on-site gym, rooftop terrace with a grilling station, and amazing views of Okanagan Lake. Carrington View also includes community gardens, landscaped grounds, a dog run, and bike storage. 

 

Rental Housing Provider of the Year: Skyline Living 

The Rental Housing Provider of the Year Award recognizes a rental housing provider who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the rental housing industry through an action, exceptional practice, or a dedicated initiative. Skyline Living is proud to be recognized for our deep focus on Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG). This involves sustainability, community outreach, charitable efforts, and helping tenants and team members alike. 

In early 2021, Skyline Group of Companies, the parent company of Skyline Living, formalized its ESG initiatives with an official and measurable Sustainability Plan, which provided a clear roadmap of how to enact, measure, and report on the company’s goals for 2022 and beyond. As Skyline Living comprises about 82% of staff within Skyline Group of Companies, and houses more than 21,500 tenants across Canada, they have a crucial role to play in meeting those sustainability objectives.

“These changes are key toward making a positive difference in our world in every way we can,” noted Santavy.    

“The data acquired through this formal process has helped to effectively determine which efforts would have the greatest impact. Many other rental providers have begun implementing their own ESG plans, and we hope to continue to have a positive influence in this regard. This process enshrines Skyline Living’s concept of a housing provider as not only a business but a contributor toward its community.”

These efforts included a tree-planting campaign, community gardens, beehives at Skyline Living properties, Coldest Night of the Year, and Wash’n’Dry for the Cure. All of these initiatives were measured in their outcomes, which stressed accountability, budgeting, and success metrics.  

Skyline Living also received Top-3 finalist status in two additional categories: Diana Grover for On-Site Employee of the Year, Vicki Peterson for On-Site Employee of the Year, and Ashley Morine for Property Manager of the Year. 

Additional nominees from Skyline Living also included Michael Zukowski for Off-Site Employee of the Year, Adriana Gutierrez and Sergio Ortiz (nominated together) for On-Site Employee of the Year, and Emanuel Jumblaru for Property Manager of the Year.
